The Farm Family Exposure Study, conducted by researchers at the University of Minnesota, is providing information on real-world pesticide exposure among farmers and their families and what handling practices farm families can take to minimize exposure. The biomonitoring study is the most comprehensive assessment to date of pesticide exposure for farm spouses and children.  Urinary samples were collected before and after pesticides were applied on the farm where the families live. The study, which examined exposure to three chemicals – the insecticide chlorpyrifos and the herbicides glyphosate and 2,4-D, is helping to improve the practice of exposure assessment used in agricultural health studies and epidemiology.
